so i herd they gonna maek gen 6

The starters for Pokemon Generation VI have already been released! From left to right, these are Fennekin, Froakie and Chespin. For those who did not catch the news yet, the pair of games for this generation are Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.

Below are my opinions on the featured Pokemon; it contains some speculation on my part, so don't take it all as fact:

:bulletred:Fennekin: Foxes are my favorite land animals because I find their form elegant and graceful. At first sight I didn't like Fennekin, however, because the original released picture (the Sugimori rendition) exaggerated its disproportionately large head and made its tiny body look rather ridiculous. However, after looking through some cute fanart of it and drawing its face myself, I now think it looks adorable. The face reminds me of Shaymin (Sky Forme) but the concept is a bit too close to Vulpix in a way, so I hope that its evolutions look distinctly different from Ninetales. I guess it's nice that this Pokemon isn't likely to evolve into a Fire/Fighting type like is past three predecessors. It appears to me that this starter is by far the most popular; but then, chibi-like fox-puppy Pokemon usually are.

:bulletblue:Froakie: I really didn't like Froakie at first because its color scheme reminded me too much of Seismitoad. Its concept also isn't all too different from Politoed, so I didn't see the point of having more Water frogs. To be honest, I tend to prefer starters based on mammals, which was why I liked Oshawott so much more than I liked Squirtle and Piplup. However, after drawing Froakie and noticing the fluffy thing on its nose, I'm excited to see its evolutions! It's my guess that as it grows, so will a gorgeous big mustache; I completely adore Pokemon with mustaches (Swalot is one of my all-time favorites) so if the evolutions sport amazing mustaches I might change my mind about this little guy. The fluffiness makes me wonder if it will eventually develop a second type that is a bit out of the norm for a Water starter.

:bulletgreen:Chespin: This is my absolute favorite of the new starters! For a start, it's a mammal: namely, it's a cute happy-looking chipmunk-hedgehog thing with a great color scheme which makes me wonder if it might be partially Ground type like Torterra. If it doesn't grow into a part Ground type, I wouldn't be surprised if it became part Fighting, which isn't a common combination with Grass. I think its helmetlike horned thing has the potential to develop into something nice, perhaps a back of quills. Chespin looks pretty similar to Oshawott in form, which isn't a bad thing; it gives me hope that its evolutions would look as cool as Dewott does. Hopefully, however, its final evolution does not look completely unrelated like Samurott does, and I'd really like if its evolutions were to keep its color scheme more so than does the Oshawott line did.

In this picture, I think Fennekin turned out the best and Chespin didn't actually look so well. The scanner did dull the colors, so what I have in front of me is actually more saturated than what is on your screen. I haven't drawn Pokemon in a good while, and this is the first time I used Prismacolor colored pencils for that purpose.

So far I'm excited for Gen VI, since it's rare for me to like all three starters upon release. I'm also a fan of Xerneas, so perhaps you can expect art of that at some point?

Tell me what you think of these starters!

I do not own the designs of the characters portrayed here. Pokemon belongs to Nintendo :pokeball:
